Civic Action Committee

·         Sue will determine if KAWC, EDA, and developer met.

·         EDA said that they will pay for half the cost of the water tank and that the city of Midway will be taking out a loan to pay the interest or something like that.  Namely, there is no full decision, and they are meeting again on the October 1st.  The EDA seems to be fairly hush hush about their meetings.

·         Real Estate property tax for 2001 went down from 11.7 to 11.6 cents per hundred dollars.  Auto tax stayed the same.

·         Some people were complaining about water pressure problems.  Apparently this is somehow related to the chlorine levels.  They are going to try to meet with Water co.

·         City will renew lease on the police substation for one more year.

·         Wednesday October 10th at 2pm to 4pm there will be an open house at the new sewer plant..

·         It was brought up at the city meeting that we were looking at getting streetlights.  Discussion of all items pertaining to that were put on the agenda for the 10/1 city meeting.

·         City owns a house on the city cemetery property, and someone named Brandon lives there for free.  Is supposed to take care of it?  The building needs many renovations and need to have Brandon move? And pay rent later?

2

Public Relations Committee

·         Kathy went to the IRS and found that we need to file under 501.c4 status.  This is tax-exemption for non-profit orgs.  To qualify under this specification, one must be organized for one of many public services, and what not and we basically qualify as a civic organization.  Applying for this will cost $150.  This process goes entirely through the IRS, and no state agencies need to be involved.  Regarding grant eligibility, more research will need to be done.

·         Newsletter is about done and should be ready in a couple weeks.

·         Decided to add something about the Library’s mailing list into our newsletter, thus avoiding concerns of giving out people’s information.

·         We tentatively decided that the newsletter will be printed in black and white.

·         We decided that as long as printing costs under $50 it can go to press

·

3

Streets and Grounds Committee

·         Get quote for the conduit – Quote came in at $25,437 from Wilhod Inc. in Nicholasville and will be used as an estimate. This is for 41 lights.  With this in mind, this seems to not be feasible.

·         Discovered regarding Street lights – Responsibility is to the homeowners for conduit, KU for wiring and installation, and we hope the city for utility power up to a certain amount.  The lamps

·         Grants for putting in the streetlights?

·         Gaylen Crawley expressed an interest in the mowing contract.

·

4

Finance Committee

·         Still not sure what is up with the insurance.

·         7 people
